Flares fired by captain of sinking boat in Australia

Two Rocks, Australia

Three men in a sinking boat near Perth, Australia, fired flares to alert rescuers.

The men, in their 60s, were in an 11-metre boat that hit a reef 3kilometres west of the Two Rocks Marina, north of Perth, the Western Australia reported.

The boat began sinking and the owner called police, fired four flares and deployed other safety equipment.

WA Police Superintendent Garry Kosovich says a police helicopter found the vessel and, assisted by a Two Rocks Volunteer Sea Rescue Group vessel, rescued the men, who were reportedly in good health.

The vessel was towed to the Two Rocks Marina.
