Three people have been saved in the United States after firing flares when their boat began taking on water.

The boaters launched two red flares after they got into trouble one afternoon in October 2017 near Pine Island, Connecticut.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received a call from a good Samaritan over VHF-FM channel 16.

A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew launched from Coast Guard Station New London, located the stricken boat and towed it to Groton Public Boat Ramp in Groton, Connecticut.

No injuries or pollution have been reported. The image is a U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Peter Beaulieu.
