Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew from Port Talbot, Wales, used white illuminating flares in a night search.

The Port Talbot RNLI lifeboat was called into action one night in January 2019 following reports of a red flare being spotted. It had been seen in the River Neath area.

The lifeboat was soon on scene together with local coastguard and began searching the area from the motorway bridges to the river mouth.

Three white para flares were used to illuminate the area, but nothing was found.

After around one and a quarter hours, all services were stood down and the lifeboat returned to station.
